From Prairie City to John Day, OR.

Just some shots from the cockpit of the Mothership as we made our way from Prairie City to John Day. The Fossil Center was really busy the morning we were there, but we did get a chance to see all of the exhibits, just not go out on the trail or whatever to see the actual beds. Just keeping track of two grandchildren, when I’m in a boot and need a cane to navigate, was a challenge enough indoors!

As an aside: the motorhome you see in the photo we seemed to have followed for a couple of hours. Not much traffic on this road, which is nice. Just a bit boring looking at the back of the same motorhome for miles!

Leaving Prairie City, OR.

The morning routine of packing, cleaning and unhooking from water, electric and waste lines. Making sure the site is clean as when we found it. We drove from Prairie City to John Day to check out the fossils ( next post). Wasn’t much traffic as we drove across central Oregon.

Reading Material on the Road

In the cockpit: When I’m not piloting the Mothership I usually shirk my duties as navigator and have my camera poised for something interesting. There can be long moments between using the camera and waiting for something of interest to appear. There seems to be no shortage of reading material on the road. The only thing this trailer is missing is the “How’s my Driving” sticker.

Leaving Seattle

Over the Cascade Range and into Wenatchee, WA. Headed towards Benton City, our first stop on the way to Weiser, ID. A longtime friend of our son in law has a ‘cottage’ on the land that is a vineyard, which his family owned till last year when they sold and retired. Mark’s friend, Alex, decided to buy the two cottages adjacent to the vineyard to live in and rent out. Amazing place, as you will see in following posts.

We followed this older ‘ship’ for a few miles on I90. On the back is the words: El Apartamento’. You never know what you are going to see on road trips. The cloud formations were interesting throughout the voyage.

Enjoy and safe travels.

Trains along the Way

Driving along I40, from east to west, we discovered that the train line that runs parallel and is very busy. The train tunnel caught my eye as it looks like one tunnel was started and then abandoned. I wonder if the original survey was incorrect or just ran in to trouble?

Views from the Cockpit: Pt.?

Nothing spectacular, just some shots while driving along I40 in the SW somewhere. If you’re doing a long drive in a relatively short period of time most of your sightseeing is done from the passenger or drivers seat. Armed with a Samsung point and shoot camera I fired away at the road itself, at times.
