Abandoned Along Route 66 (more)

Even the billboards are abandoned along Route 66! No Burma Shave signs…..just a mostly forgotten pathway from the near past. I think it is a good thing we have these reminders from a different time in our history. I would feel worse if they leveled every building or structure that was abandoned. At least if there is even a shell of what used to be  we can imagine and get some sense of the past.

Abandoned along Route 66

More abandoned buildings along Route 66. Doesn’t take too long for the sagebrush and tumbleweed to claim the grounds. If we had had more time I would have docked the Mothership and walked around and, perhaps, explored inside some of these buildings; next time :-).

The Chase

These images were taken from the cockpit going 60+ mph, so not the best quality. What I saw was dinosaurs chasing a vehicle along Route 66. We were driving on I-40, which you can see runs really close to the old 66. I believe this was near the Petrified Forest Park, which is northern Arizona, Apache and Navajo land.

Abandoned Route 66 (Con’t.)

If you’re a Trainspotter, driving along I-40 and Route 66 is a great place to get your train ‘kicks’. It makes sense that train and vehicle routes would go hand in hand. Road trips are a great platform for discovery. I discovered that my wife was a closet ‘trainspotter’. She rarely failed to point out a train as we traveled and seemed to be truly excited with each sighting.
