If you’re a Trainspotter, driving along I-40 and Route 66 is a great place to get your train ‘kicks’. It makes sense that train and vehicle routes would go hand in hand. Road trips are a great platform for discovery. I discovered that my wife was a closet ‘trainspotter’. She rarely failed to point out a train as we traveled and seemed to be truly excited with each sighting.
Safe travels
from the Mothership
docked in Seattle!
The forward motion of the train, a symbol of life and progress, is in great contrast to the abandoned, lifeless, frozen in time buildings which you photographed along Route 66. I suspect that your train-spotting wife is really just a hopeful person who affirms life!

The trains, commerce just keep rolling along. At one point we did see the Amtrak passenger train that runs from LA to Chicago, but all of the rest freight trains. Unlike me, my wife is a rather hopeful person, something I have struggled with through 42 years of marriage 😉.
